Hot Stone Massage
Hot Stone Massage originates in ancient India and China, and more recently to the North American Indians living in the southwest states. Traditionally placed in patterns over the body, or worn for health and protection, throughout treatment of disease or during ceremonies such as sweat lodges. Sometimes the heated stones were used to ease discomforts throughout menstruation, or applied coldstones to impede blood flow after giving birth.
More recently it is thirving throughout the Health Spas and Salons. The stones themselves are usually basalt, a black volcanic rock that absorbs and retains heat well, and have been smoothed by natural forces in the river or sea. Using the smooth heated stones, warming the skin encouraging the absorption of the mositurizing oils, while at the same time enhancing relaxation, allowing the therapist to work into the deeper muscle layers.
Regular sports massage will help prevent tension building up and injuries occurring.
